Turkey Steaks

Ingredients
  • 1 cup (or 1 part) peanut oil
  • 1 cup (or 1 part) soy sauce
  • 2 cups (or 2 parts) Sprite or 7up
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish powder (optional)
  • 3 lbs Turkey Breast Tenderloins
Instructions
Make marinade with first 5 ingredients. Soak steaks in marinade in refrigerator for several hours. (About 3-5 hours. Not overnight because the steaks will taste strongly of marinade.) Barbeque. Serve with your favorite sides. Easy as that!
*Horseradish powder I have found is very difficult to find. I usually get mine at health food stores where they can grind it up for you. I have it as optional for that reason, but if you do find it, it gives it a really good flavor.

This is the first meal Jeremy ever made me. We had just barely started dating at the time. I can still remember the day when he told me excitedly that he was going to make me turkey steaks. To be honest, it sounded kinda gross. It made me think of chicken fried steak, which I'm not that big a fan of, and imagined it to look somewhat like that but turkey flavored. I was pleasantly surprised to see it looked like chicken. I was even more surprised when my tastebuds experienced the yumminess. Is that a word? It was delicious! It has now become one of our favorite meals.

Since we've been making turkey steaks, we've found ways to make it better. Many people that know me know that I'm addicted to QVC. Yes, the home shopping network. I blame my mother for that. I don't have it on all the time, but I have it on a lot, and because it is on a lot, poor Jeremy has to put up with it. (I don't share with the remote.) One day, we were watching their kitchen gadgets show, and that's the day we found the Deni 56-blade meat tenderizer.
It was actually Jeremy that wanted to order this. I knew it'd rub off on him someday. This tenderizer will make the cheapest steak tender. The way this gadget works is that it has 56 blades (duh....thus the name of the product) and you poke holes all over your meat without flattening it like that hammer looking thing does. Except, try not to go too crazy with it. I massacred a chicken breast once beyond repair I couldn't even cook it. Anyway, it allows your marinade to seep into these little holes to have wonderful bursts of juicy flavor with every bite. Don't laugh...my meat probably tastes better than yours! Order it....trust me!

You'd think this gadget was enough, but oh no, we do even more. This is where the FoodSaver comes into play. Only the next best invention ever. This contraption will suck out air, because air is the enemy here, to help preserve your precious food. I use it for a million things, but I won't go into it today because I'm starting to feel like an infomercial. This is probaby something I should put in my Tips and Tricks. This is another purchase from QVC, but this time I didn't buy it. My mother did. Since she never used it, I stole it from her. Best investment ever, let me tell you. It is great for marinading if you buy the special marinading container as shown below.
What it does is suck all of the air out of the canister and opens up the pores of your meat to allow for better absorption of the marinade, so you can marinade something that usually takes 3-5 hours in just 15 minutes. Plus, if you've punctured it with the meat tenderizer, even more marinade will seep through. Have I sold you on this one too? Order it here. QVC should really compensate me for this. I'm so giving them free advertisement.

All of this will give you the most delicious, tender, juicy, flavorful turkey steaks ever. (I couldn't think of any more adjectives or else I would have put them.) You could make these steaks with chicken, but trust me, the turkey makes it taste 100 times better. You could make half of the marinade or more of the marinade depending on how much turkey you are going to cook up. I made the mistake of making the whole marinade today. Usually I only make half. I didn't want to waste the marinade, so I went and bought some more turkey breast tenderloins. There was actually a lot more on that plate before we took the picture. We had already eaten when I remembered I had a blog I had to keep up with. (Guess what we'll be eating for the rest of the week.) Try it though....you will LOVE it!

That's so sweet it was the first meal he ever made for you!! I love the meat tenderizer and the marinator (sp?). That's funny your addicted to QVC. We all have our addictions, that's for sure! Some worse than others. QVC's not so bad, except on the pocketbook after a while. hehe
